With over 40 years of global experience in the chemical, petrochemical, and oil and gas industries, Mr. Alvarado provides fixed equipment reliability programs and technical support, as well as NDE consulting for technical experts and management. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held diverse roles including owner-operator, consultant, Chief Chemist, Senior Inspector, and Corrosion/Materials/NDE Applications Engineer. Mr. Alvarado is an original member of the API RBI project and remains active in API committee work, including API 510, 570, RP 580, and 581 code committees and working groups. Since 1996, he has specialized in risk-based inspection (RBI) consulting, training, and project management, with over 100 articles published on the subject. Notably, he was an invited participant and interviewee for the RAND study, New Forces at Work in Refining – Industry Views of Critical Business and Operations Trends (2003), which examined industrial infrastructure as a component of national security.

Although not required for this course, we also recommend that you purchase and familiarize yourself with the API RP 580 (3rd Edition) document, upon which API RP 581 is based. You can find this document at Techstreet or IHS. It will be helpful to have both documents available for reference while taking this course.
